Abstract

The transmission of 20 Gbit/s-based terabit wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) signals over 9170 km was demonstrated. A 23-nm bandwidth C-band erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and symmetrically dispersion-managed fibre span were used for the purpose. The use of enhanced forward error correction (FEC) with 7% redundancy resulted in the enhancement of the FEC gain for the transpacific transmission.
