Abstract

The unrepeatered transmission of 40 Gbit/s-based teracapacity 306 km wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signals using 175 μm2-Aeff fibre was demonstrated. The system used remote-erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) and Raman amplification without using a separate fibre for pump power transmission. The development of ultra-large-Aeff positive dispersion fibre (PDF) cables was stated to be necessary for the realization of ultra-long-distance unrepeatered systems.
