Abstract
A 40 Gbit/s single-channel transmission experiment over standard single mode fiber was conducted using distributed Raman amplification (DRA). A transmission distance of over 10000 km was achieved using dispersion management on dispersion shifted fiber (DSF). It was found that DRA reduced the effect of pulse interactions and improved the transmission performance.
