    Abstract

This paper proposes a new description method of the relations between businesses. We call this method Global Relations Diagram of function and demarcation (G-RD). The Data Flow Diagram (DFD) widely used until now can describe the activity and the activity order in detail. However there are two problems with this method. Firstly, when we use this description method for a large-scale object, the line where it connects between the elements becomes entangled like spaghetti. Secondly, there is no conversion with other description method such as IPO diagram. Our new description method G-RD can solve these two problems. It does this by describing the structure of the businesses by using "Elements" and "Relations". Elements show the role and the function of the businesses and Relations connect and explain the relationships between Elements. We position Elements on the diagonal line of the square matrix. A Relation can be plotted where an in-Element row and out-Element column intersect. This paper will show how Hitachi Ltd. applied this G-RD to more than 200 projects, and confirmed its effectiveness.
