Abstract

Presents a general Petrov-Galerkin formulations for streamline type which accommodates systems of conservation laws. Proposes a weighted residual formulation and discusses formulation of several boundary conditions e.g. the scalar linear advection/diffusion equation and the compressible Euler equations. Examines selection of optimization parameters and discusses a family of new methods (Donea's Taylor- Galerkin schemes). Sample numerical calculations are presented and briefly discussed. (C.J.U.)
