Abstract

With the recent rapid growth of the Internet, there has arisen demand for real-time voice communication, i.e., Internet Telephony. However, the Internet is not suitable for real-time communication, because it does not guarantee bitrate or routing,. This paper describes the technical problems of real-time communication on the Internet and describes NTT's Internet Telephony Software "VocaLink-Soft". It also describes directory server software "Vocalink-DSV", which enables users to use "VocaLink-Soft" even if they do not know the destination PC's IP address.
