Abstract

The optimum configuration for hybrid Raman/EDFA amplification in ultra-long-distance 40Gbit/s WDM transmission using a dispersion-flattened fibre span is investigated. By optimising the Raman gain, 16 × 40Gbit/s WDM transmission over 2000km was achieved with 80km repeater spacing.
