    Abstract

    This letter describes SiC formation from precursors derived from methyltriethoxysilane (CH3Si(OC2H5)3, MTES)-B(OC2H5)3-polyacrylonitrile (PAN) compositions. Several conditions were varied: the carbon/MTES molar ratio (C/MTES ratio); the boron/silicon atomic ratio (B/Si ratio); and the reaction temperature for conversion. The effect of these variations on the composition of the products was investigated.
