Abstract

This chapter introduces the use of a conducting polymer coating with a superhydrophobic effect as an effective anticorrosion coating. The chapter begins by introducing the current approaches to preventing corrosion. It then focuses the discussion on the use of conducting polymers as anticorrosion coatings, including the protection mechanism and a short review of current research. A short discussion on superhydrophobic surfaces then follows. It explains the theoretical background and presents a number of approaches for fabricating superhydrophobic coatings. It then discusses the current efforts to combine the superhydrophobic coating and conducting polymer and its application in preventing corrosion.
