Abstract

This paper describes the error-protected Twin VQ coding method, which can be applied to the IMT-2000 mobile communications system. A real-time music delivery system based on this method is reported. The Twin VQ coding method, which includes error detection and error suppression measures, is used to reduce the audio distortion of decoding resulting from the coding error of wireless transmission. Real-time encoding and decoding under the proposed method are also described. Computer simulations of IMT-2000 are used to evaluate the subjective quality of the delivered music. The possibility of a high-quality real-time music delivery system using IMT-2000 is demonstrated.
