Abstract

A textured microstructure in ceramics is one effective way for improving their properties. We have already reported that textured alumina can be obtained by slip casting in a strong magnetic field followed by sintering. This processing was applied to the SiC(whisker)-dispersed Al2O3 and ZrO2-dispersed Al2O3 composites. Textured Al2O3 matrices with the c axis parallel to the magnetic field were developed in the composites. However, it was impossible to confirm that the alignment of the SiC whiskers and ZrO2 particles as a dispersed phase in the composites occurred.
