Abstract

The control of texture in ceramics is one of the ways for effectively improving their properties. Anisotropic susceptibility is very small in ZnO and TiO 2 ; therefore, it had been very difficult to developing the textured microstructure using a magnetic field. But we demonstrate in this paper that the textured ZnO and TiO 2 can be prepared by a colloidal processing in a high magnetic field followed by heating. A green solid with a slight degree of crystallographic orientation was obtained before sintering. The degree of texture increased with increasing temperature, and crystallographic texture development accompanies the densification and grain growth in the specimens.
