Creation of multi-carrier millimeter-wave signal using Mach-Zehnder- modulator-based flat comb generator

Abstract

Generation of millimeter (MM) and terahertz (THz) waves is important for wireless communications, perspective imaging, and so on. Since photonic technologies are advantageous to signal generation in such a high-frequency region as compared with electronics, several techniques based on photomixing have been developed [1]. In this way, an optical comb signal can be applied to a seed source [2]. A Mach-Zehnder-modulator-based flat comb generator [3] is good candidate for a comb source, because ultraflat comb signals can be stably generated. In this paper, we propose a generation method for multicarrier MM/THz signals using the MZ-FCG.
