Demonstration of image sensor communication

Abstract

In this paper, a Visible Light Communication (VLC) system utilizing image sensor is devised. The structure of the proposed system is introduced. Capture, tracking and extraction of Light Emitting Diode (LED) signal are achieved by applying the locating algorithm to the visible light communication system. Edge algorithms, region growing algorithm and frame difference method are used to find out the location, and these algorithms are compared. Moreover, on the basis of this system, a simple, character-oriented ASCII communication protocol is achieved, and relevant results are given. The results show that a practicable communication speed can be achieved by using the proposed system.
