Abstract
The aggregation and fluorescence properties of a water-soluble oligothiophene (6TN) bolaform amphiphile were discussed. The steric hinderance caused by the β-substitution in the internal rings prevented full conjugation of thiophene units due to steric strain. The results showed that the boromohexyl-terminated sexithiophene had poor solubility in common organic solvents due to the strong π-π interaction.
