Abstract

We investigate the effects of LiNbO 3 modulator chirp on the performances of optical multilevel signals detected by a digital coherent receiver and evaluate the optical filtering tolerances of multilevel signals. The results show that return-to-zero (RZ) pulse carving is useful to prevent the performance deterioration caused by the modulator chirp.
