Abstract

We have studied the electronic structure of the FeAs layer in LaFeAsO using unrestricted Hartree-Fock calculations on a multi-orbital d-p Hamiltonian. Based on the calculated results, we argue that the antiferromagnetism of LaFeAsO is derived from the excitonic effect between the hole pocket at the Γ point and the electron pocket at the M point that is coupled with the band Jahn-Teller effect due to the yz/zx orbital degeneracy at the Γ point.
