Abstract

Endothelial cell marker gene expression on the reconstruction of double-layered co-culture endothelial cells was investigated using thermo-responsive culture dish. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) at passage 3 were cultured in modified EGM-2 for the experiments. The gene expression levels of PECAM-1, ICAM-1 and Factor VIII on double-layered co-culture endothelial cells were increased after 2 weeks compared with monolayer culture. The results suggests that hepatocyte functions and endothelial cell functions are maintained and liver parenchyma during double-layered co-culture.
