    Abstract

The splice effect between rings of shield tunnel is found when the segments are assembled in a staggered pattern. The moment is distributed to the neighboring segment in the ring joint area due to the splice effect. It is important to evaluate the splice effect taking account of segment width in the design of segment when the segment is widened. In this study the segment linings are analyzed based on the beam-spring model and shell-spring model respectively. From the numerical results it was found that the distribution of moment along the segment width is non-uniform and concentrative at the side of segment. The moment concentration degree along the segment width is investigated and the rational design method for the widened segment is suggested.
