Firebrand deposition and measurements of collected firebrands generated and transported from a full-Scale burn test using a large wooden building

    The fire experiment was conducted in Tsukuba in February, 2012 for studying a feasibility of a large wooden building. The building went up in flames and a large number of firebrands were generated and transported by wind. After the experiment, firebrands deposited in every location were collected and each total mass was measured. Consequently, the extent of the firebrand deposition and the distributions of the firebrand deposition density were obtained. The measurements of projected mass and volume of each firebrand revealed that firebrand mass density and dimensions decreased with a distance from the fire.
