Abstract

The upstream region of the beta-lactamase promoter of pUC19 has a DNA curvature. Whether the curvature plays some role in the transcription from the promoter or not has been studied. The overall three-dimensional structure of the region containing the promoter and the curvature seems to play some significant role in the transcription of the gene. Functional significance of the DNA curvature located in the vicinity of a promoter is discussed.
