Generation of optical 32QAM using two tandem IQ modulators with simplified electronics

Abstract

We propose and demonstrate an optical 32QAM transmitter, consisting of two tandem IQ modulators driven by binary and 3-level electronics. Compared with the single-IQ modulator scheme requiring 6-level electronics, the complexity in electronics is reduced.
