Heat-change behavior of electroless-plated CoNiReP films for perpendicular magnetic recording

Abstract

The effect of heat-treament on magnetic and structural properties of electroless-plateds CoNiReP films with various compositions, by mainly varying Co content, were investigated, not only to estimate their thermal stability but also to assume their microstructure at the as-deposited conditions. The magnetic properties of the films with high crystallinity changed widely. The Co 32Ni 55Re 6P 7 film with the largest perpendicular magnetic anisotropy maintained its 〈002〉 oriented hcp structure and perpendicular magneticv anisotropy with the heat treatment up to 500°C. The treatment higher than 600°C altered the crystal structure of the film from the dominqtion of hcp structure into that of fcc structure, causing the sharp change in magnetic properties of the films.
