    Abstract

Interaction of D+, He+ and Li+ with a polycrystalline KI film has been studied under the condition of impact scattering in the kinetic-energy region from 10 eV to 1 keV. The ion spectra exhibit clear loss peaks due to excitation of surface electrons. The excitation is such that one or two surface electrons with a binding energy smaller than that of the ionic 1s-level are transferred to the conduction band.
