Intravascular inhomogeneous distribution of oxygen in arterioles of rat cremaster muscle

Abstract

Previously, cross-sectional oxygen distribution in microvessels was assumed to be homogeneous. The oxygen profile in the arterioles of rat cremaster muscle was measured using microspectrophotometry and a PO2 microelectrode, showing a drop in S02 as well as PO2 close to the vascular wall with a flat PO2 profile in the perivascular tissue.
