Abstract
An intelligent CAI system called MASTERS has been developed applying knowledge engineering technologies to current Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) systems. The key data of MASTERS is storing the expertise for controlling instruction processes as production rules. This enables flexible control of the scene display, thus allowing the scenes to be matched to the level of understanding of the student. In addition, reuse of the teaching material is simplified. The effectiveness of the method is described using the results of a training course for Ada and Prolog programming languages.
