Abstract

We study the existence of a least energy solution of the Beris - Edward model for liquid crystals, following the approach of Brezis - Lieb and assuming flow velocity equal to zero. A specific choice of the parameters in the De Gennes energy functional enables one to show that least energy solution exists and can be seen as a minmax point of the energy functional.
