Measurement of four kinds of VOCs emission from an adhesive considered diffusion through the building materials

    Abstract

    It has led to develop a measurement method using a calcium silicate board (CSB) (JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) A 5430, 2008) for VOCs emissions from an adhesive. In this study, Chemical emission rates from two different kinds of adhesives: E (Epoxide resin adhesive for woody floor materials) and W (Ethylene vinyl acetate emulsion copolymerization adhesive) were tested by using a 20L chamber and a CSB specimen applied with an adhesive added with four VOCs: toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene and styrene, whose amounts were 0.05%Wt, 0.1%Wt, 0.25%Wt and 0.5%Wt. In addition, De for four VOCs in the CSB were measured by the cup method (Ito, K, et al. 2005). De in the conditions that toluene was included in mixtures decreased.
