Abstract
Millimeter-wave LiNbO3 optical modulators stacked to orthogonal-gap-embedded patch-antennas on low-k dielectric substrate is proposed for fiber-wireless (Fi-Wi) links. Direct conversion from wireless millimeter-wave to lightwave signals can be achieved using the proposed device. It can be operated with no external power supply. Experimentally demonstration of Fi-Wi link for 40GHz millimeter-wave bands using the proposed device is reported and discussed. Carrier-to-noise ratio of ∼30dB can be obtained in the Fi-Wi link.
