Abstract

Multi-chip phase shifters with universal reflective MMICs are presented. These consist of ultra broad-band reflective MMICs flip-chip mounted onto a microwave passive substrate containing 3-dB hybrid couplers. Using the same reflective MMICs, we can change the operating bandwidth of the phase shifter only by shifting the center frequency of 3-dB hybrid couplers. The fabricated L-C, C and X band 4-bit phase shifters successfully show very good performances. According to the concept, microwave phase shifters that can operate in various frequency ranges are available with low cost.
