Multi-layered stacked patch-antennas on electro-optic material for optical modulation

    Abstract

    Multi-layered stacked patch-antennas on an electro-optic (EO) material are proposed for optical modulation. By using multi-layered structures, larger antenna gain can be obtained to induce stronger millimeter-wave electric fields. The induced millimeter-wave electric field can be used for optical modulation through the Pockels effects of the EO crystal. Since the antenna gain is enhanced by using multi-layered stacked patch-antennas, the modulation index improvement can be obtained.
