Abstract
Phenols 2-substituted with trimethylsilyl groups (1, 2 and 3) were oxidatively polymerized with 2,6-dimethylphenol (4) in the presence of a copper-pyridine catalyst to yield the corresponding poly(phenyleneoxide) copolymers. The polymerization mechanism was studied kinetically and spectroscopically.
