Abstract

Theory of distortion measures for stochastic processes is developed and applications are discussed. First, topological relations of rho , Prokhorov and spectral distortion measures are given. Then various properties of these process distortion measures are presented. As an application to system theory, the robustness of predictors against possible mismatches is studied. Another application given in this paper is the design of a codebook for autoregressive models and speech compression systems using that codebook. Two types of new systems; a model matching encoded (or rate distortion coder) and a parallel tree search encoder are given.
