    Abstract

Radiative electron capture by heavy ions scattered at grazing incidence on solid surfaces is investigated. Remarkable oscillations in cross‐sections of the process versus the distance of ions from the surface are found. This behaviour is ascribed to the correlation between the ion velocity and electronic states near the surface. The dependence of the cross‐sections on the incidence angle is calculated for the several primary energies. The possibility of the surface structure analysis by a measurement of the radiative electron capture is discussed.
