Relaxation of photoexcited tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium complex ([Ru(bpy)3]2+) in mesopores

    Abstract

    The excited state relaxation of tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) ([Ru(bpy)3]2+) in aluminum containing mesoporous silica was investigated as a function of loading amount and temperature. The concentration dependence of [Ru(bpy)3]2+ on the luminescence intensity suggests that the self-quenching of [Ru(bpy) 3]2+ is a dynamic process in the temperature range of 20 to 120 °C.
