Abstract

This paper describes recent developments in both the hot and cold strip mills associated with the shape and profile controls in steel rolling processes. A shape control system, an identification method of the shape model by the GMDH and a shape control algorithm using the hill climbing method are described for the cold strip process. Coefficients estimates of the system model by using Kalman filtering are also developed. The paper describes such newly developed aspects for the hot strip process as a control system consisting of shape and profile concurrent controls, the prediction control of the top of the strip, a tandem rolling mill simulator, a shape and profile concurrent control algorithm and prediction control of the top of the strip using an AR type and other types of models.
