Abstract

We have demonstrated the effectiveness of the periodic dispersion compensation and polarization-division-multiplexing for timing jitter reduction in 40 Gbit/s single-channel soliton transmission, and have succeeded in 5000 km straight-line transmission experiments at 40 Gbit/s for the first time.
