Abstract

Mechanisms of spin-gap formation in two-dimensional Mott insulators are investigated. The origin of the spin gap is analyzed as a dimer gap in generalized Heisenberg models with dimerization, while it is interpreted as the plaquette singlet gap in CaV4O9.
