Strong mechanical nonlinearity of optomechanically driven suspended photonic crystal membrane

    Abstract

    We demonstrated the nonlinear mechanics of an optomechnaically driven silicon membrane suspended 100nm over a nearby substrate. The estimated optical force-induced Duffing nonlinearity is 10<sup>28</sup>Hz<sup>2</sup>/m<sup>2</sup>, significantly larger than that afforded by the nonlinear Casimir potential.
