Abstract
We studied poly(phenylene ether)s that were yielded by oxidative polymerization of 3- or 5-methylsalicylic acid under aqueous conditions as water-soluble binder for coating. The coating material composed of the polymer and pigment microparticles such as CaCO3 showed good characteristics for coating process, because it had significantly low viscosity at high shear rate compared to the conventional coating materials based on poly (vinyl alcohol) as the binder.
