Synthesis of poly[(p-anisylamino)-tris(hexyloxy) triphenylene] and its magnetic property

Abstract

For the creation of a purely organic ferromagnet, π-conjugated polyradicals satisfying nonKekulé and non-disjoint structure have been synthesized. In this report, the triaminotriphenylene derivative 2 and the tribromotriphenylene derivative 3 were synthesized from 2-methoxyphenol via 5 and 6 steps. High molecular weight aromatic polyamines 4 were prepared by palladium-catalyzed polycondensation. Polycondensation conditions, such as catalytic ligand, solvent, base, and feed ratio of the comonomers were optimized. The polyamines 4 were oxidized to the corresponding poly(aminium cationic radicals 1. ESR and UV-vis spectrum indicated a N-centered radical generation. Magnetic properties of polyradicals 1 were examined by SQUID measurement, which displayed a chemical stability and an intramolecular ferromagnetic interaction of the polyradical.
