Abstract
Sulfonated poly(phenylene sulfone) 2 was synthesized via precursor polymer of sulfonated poly(phenylene sulfide) 1. Ionic exchange capacity of 2 was 4.0 meq g1. Thermal degradation temperature(Tdl0%) of 2 was 335 °C, which was 90 °C higher than that of 1. Casting the mixture of 2 and poly(ethylene oxide) gave a transparent flexible membrane. Proton conductivity of the 2 composite membrane was 10-4-10-6 S cm-1, and 1-2 order higher than that of the 1 composite. Sulfone group is expected to work as an electron-withdrawing group.
