N2 - The paper investigates the influence of the lubricant applying effect on the cutting of two difficult-to-cut materials SUS304 and Ti alloy. The experimental results demonstrate that the lubricant applying effect plays an important role in the SUS304 cutting and thus, can be used to control the built-up edge. On the other hand, the lubricant applying effect could not be found to influence the Ti alloy cutting.
