Abstract

A herd of 25 white-lipped deer Cervus albirostris of mixed age-groups, was observed during August 1986 around Gyaring Lake, Qinghai Province, China. Herd size and composition remained constant throughout the study and were compared with other herds reported on previously. Estimated home range size was about 35 km2. There were two pronounced peaks of activity in the morning and evening; however, the daytime cycle of activities varied from day to day. Reduction of competition from domestic animals and protection from hunting are recommended.
