Abstract
The equilibrium concentrations of Ti**3** plus and Ti**4** plus in the molten CaO-SiO//2-Al//2O//3-MgO system with TiC, C and atmospheric CO were determined from 1400 degree to 1550 degree C in order to clarify the mechanism of the formation of titanium carbonitride at the hearth of a blast furnace. The gamma //T//i//O (1 multiplied by (times) 5) and gamma (TiO//2) values were calculated.
