Abstract
Transition lo turbulence in oscillatory flow has been studied in a bifurcating airway model. Velocities were measured with a two-colour laser-doppler velocimeter. In the parent tube the large velocity gradient of "V" shaped velocity profile produces turbulence near the lube center in the expiratory phase of the flow cycle. On the other hand in the the inspiratory phase of the flow cycle, turbulence occurs in the tube center in the daughter tube.
