Abstract

The possible key technologies for the ultra long-haul multi-terabit transmission systems were studied. The effectiveness of VSB-RZ transmission for high spectral efficiency and the need for further nonlinearity suppression in the transmission line for 40Gbit/s based WDM system applications was shown. The reconstruction of the suppressed sideband was found to be very small, thus the overall signal spectrum was kept narrow after 4260 km transmission. The Q-factor after 1935 km and 4260 km transmission was found to be 15.7dB and 12.6dB.
