Y-123; the influence of various dopant ions on structure and properties

Abstract

A decreased oxygen content in Y-123 has the same effect as Me3+ (Me=Al,Co, Fe) doping at the Cu1 chain site. This results in a depression of Tc and based on the observed structural changes it can be rationalised in terms of a decreased carrier concentration in the CuO2 planes. In "underdoped" materials the superconducting properties can be improved by partial replacement of yttrium by calcium, a finding made in oxygen depleted as well as cobalt doped materials.
