Abstract

We propose z-cut LiNbO<inf>3</inf> optical modulators using patch-antennas with orthogonal-gaps for millimeter-wave radar applications. They are fabricated on thin LiNbO<inf>3</inf> crystals bonded with low-k dielectric materials. Large modulation efficiency and low noise response are obtainable.
