A micromachined liquid chromatography chip with a pillar array mixer for post-column derivatization in the analysis of neurotransmitters

抄録

This work describes an on-chip mixer for post-column derivatization after liquid chromatography (LC) separation. The mixer was developed as a microchannel filled with a diamond-shaped pillar array (pillar array mixer, PA-mixer), which simultaneously enhanced the derivatization reaction and prevented the diffusion of the separated analytes. By utilizing the LC chip with a PA-mixer, neurotransmitters that are otherwise undetectable without derivatization could be separated, derivatized with a fluorogenic reagent, and detected within 15 s. In this manner, an automated bioanalytical method for point-of-care diagnosis was made possible by using the LC chip.
